Children’s Council; Little hands handle large matters

The Kozhikode Municipal Corporation organized a Children’s Council in preparation for its UNESCO city of literature designation on July 14, 2023. An orientation day was held prior to the council formation on July 12 to introduce this initiative. Neneh Feren, a student at St. Joseph’s Anglo-Indian Girls Higher Secondary School, was chosen as the mayor of Kozhikode, with Abhirami C.P. from GVHSS Nadakkavu appointed as the Deputy Mayor. The inaugural session of the Children’s Council focused on discussing Kozhikode’s identity as a city of literature. The council aimed to actively involve children in promoting Kozhikode as a city of literature by seeking their ideas and suggestions for the city’s development as a literary hub.
